The design brief was to produce a high performance fixed wing aircraft of conventional layout which would conform to the Microlight category definition, with a comfortable interior, using the simplest possible construction, in order to create an aircraft that’s affordable, while at the same allowing amateur construction, combined with ongoing ease of maintenance. The prototype was built by BestOff in France.
Today, 50% of the parts are manufactured by AEROS, a highly respectable company, well known for its flexwing Microlights. The remaining parts are manufactured in-house in Germany. The design is based on aircraft grade straight aluminium tubes, bolted together, without any welding being required.
The incredibly successful design combines simple construction, low maintenance and excellent performance. With the Skyranger SW we have strived to improve the original design to a standard demanded by the German market. The success of the Skyranger can be seen worldwide, from Europe, to countries as far spread as South Africa, and Australia. Apart from many awards at European championships, pilots flying the Skyranger have also garnered the coveted FAI World Championship Award on several occasions. To date more than 1400 Skyrangers have been manufactured and are flying world wide.
The Skyranger SW is a shorter wing version of the original Skyranger. The SW shares the same fuselage design with the Skyranger classic. The shorter wing allows the SW to take advantage of the newer 80-100 hp engine options, whilst delivering a higher cruise speed and increased manoeuvrability. At the same time, several other improvements were introduced to the SW range, including the more durable Xlam covering option (as standard), and upgraded
We also offer the SW with our proven Sauer 2,2l engine. This 4 cylinder “boxer”, which sounds like a “real” aircraft engine, has a performance which may surprise you. Low rpm’s, air cooled and reliability are just some of the features leading to a low cost option, while keeping the flying fun.
The Skyranger Nynja, a new development based on the SW. The Nynja shares the same wing with the SW, but features a redesigned fuselage structure, with fully formed composite panels covering the exterior of the fuselage, giving enhanced aesthetics, reducing drag and increasing performance. The added weight of the composite sides has been compensated for by trimming down weight on the fuselage. As befits a top of the range aircraft, it also has several other enhancements as standard equipment. The Nynja comes standard with the 80/100 hp Rotax 912 UL/S. The bigger doors and added windows not only improve visibility, but also allow easier access to the cockpit. A change from the original to a “barnacle” style panel increases the feeling of space in the cockpit. The interior also comes with several mouldings covering up the interior tubing, thereby improving the overall optics.
